Children, 3 years and older, can avail of paediatric surgical services at Ireland's leading private hospital, the Mater Private.
Services currently include minor surgical procedures in the areas of Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), general surgery and plastic surgery. To ensure dedicated and expert care, responding specifically to a child's needs, a dedicated team of highly-qualified specialised paediatric nurses and a paediatric clinical facilitator have been recruited.
The types of procedures being carried out include tonsils, adenoids,
grommets, bat ears, cyst removal, hernia repair, undescended testes and other minor procedures. The majority of procedures are carried out on a day-case basis but where an overnight stay is required parents are not only
welcome but actively encouraged to stay with their child, with accommodation being made available in the child's room.
Insurance cover varies by provider and plan, we always encourage parents to check their level of cover with us well in advance of admission as many procedures are fully cover from Plan B upwards and equivalents e.g. Since Feb 2010 VHI Family Plan Plus offers better cover at the Mater Private for all members. This combined with concessions means that paediatric inpatient procedures as well as day case procedures are fully covered,
Plastic Surgery
Otoplasty, (Ear Deformities including Prominent Ears/Bat Ears), Cysts (Dermoid, Pilomatrixoma), Congenital Moles, Hand Surgery (Trigger Fingers, Ganglion, Ingrown Toe Nails) and other minor plastic surgery procedures.
Micro Ears
Including Tonsils, Adenoids, Grommets, Microscopy of Ear and other non complex ENT surgery.
General Surgery
Including Hernia Repair, Undescended Testes, Circumcision, Hydroseal, Tongue Tie and Minor Urology procedures
Accommodation
All children will be cared for by paediatric nurses
All children will be admitted to either a single room or a room shared with other children of similar age.
Children will never share with an adult patient.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to stay with their child. Accommodation will be available for the parent /guardian in the child’s room.
Insurance cover
100% Cover for daycase procedures on most plans including VHI B-E,
including Family Plan Plus and others.Full cover has been arranged on VHI Plans B,C, D and E for the following specific procedures which may be carried out on an Inpatient basis.
