Specialist foot and ankle surgeons are likely to have undergone surgical training ,specialty training in orthopaedics and an additional 1-2 year fellowship in foot and ankle surgery.

Surgery often involves the repair of damage to the foot hand or ankle which which may have occurred to bone, muscle, tendon, nerve, other soft tissue (such as ligaments), skin and nails.
