About UPMC Beacon Hospital

UPMC Beacon Hospital is a full service hospital in Sandyford, Dublin. It is owned and operated by UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center).

The hospital combines the best in Irish and US healthcare. As the showcase site for General Electric in Europe, it has the most up to date Radiology systems, including MRI, CT scanner with cardiac capabilities, CT Sim and PET/CT.

Treatment facilities in UPMC Beacon include 8 operating theatres with dedicated rooms for Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiac, General, Orthopaedic and Ophthalmic Surgery. Some of the services which UPMC Beacon offers include an Emergency Department, which is consultant-led.

It has 2 Endoscopy suites, a state of the art Oncology day treatment centre, and therapeutic radiography with LINAC- linear accelerator

Patients can be referred by their GP when they have for example chest pain, and the hospital has the advantage of allowing direct referral to the wards when appropriate. Our Neurosciences department includes a neurosurgeon and neurologists. Other services in the hospital include our cancer centre and Women’s centre

Emergency Department

Beacon Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is the only Emergency Department attached to an independent hospital in the Eastern region.

It is open 8am to 8pm Monday through Saturday  with exception of Bank Holiday weekends.

The Emergency Department is a purpose designed facility in Dublin’s most advanced hospital. All patients will be seen and treated by fully qualified Consultants in Emergency Medicine. Our Consultants have the back up of our full service hospital, including:

  • Laboratory
  • Radiology - twelve radiology modalities - General Electric showcase site for Europe
  • Physiotherapy - full team of chartered Physiotherapists
  • Pharmacy
  • Nursing support from our experienced team
  • Most importantly – surgical, medical, cardiology, orthopaedic and sub speciality beds are available immediately for patients requiring admission. A full range of outpatient clinics is available on site for follow-up.

UPMC Beacon Physiotherapy staff are all highly qualified chartered physiotherapists and dedicated specialists in their individual areas of physiotherapy. The approach is always research based and we are committed to providing you with high quality assessments and treatments.

  • Muscle and joint pain (including arthritic conditions)
  • Advanced Post-Fracture Rehabilitation

Breast Care Centre

The UPMC Beacon Breast Care Centre was established in August 2008. Our aim at the Breast Care Centre is to provide all patients with swift access to our triple assessment clinic and specialist team of Consultant Surgeons, Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Pathologists, Radiographers and Breast Care Nurse Specialists, ensuring delivery of best standards of care. At the Breast Care Centre we have the most up to date Radiology Systems featuring Digital Radiology Suites with advanced Mammography and Ultrasound.
