What is Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, which may cause the heel to hurt, feel hot or swell. Plantar fasciitis usually caused by biomechanical imbalance resulting in tension along the planter fascia, a thin layer of tough connective tissue supporting the arch of the foot.
Heel Pain Symptom
The major symptom describe by patient is pain in the heel and on the sole of the foot, particularly on taking the first several steps when first getting out of the bed in the morning.
Diagnosis
Diagnoses are based mainly on medical history and examine the feet to locate painful area.
X-Rays are generally but not always taken to determine if other disorders or conditions causing the pain.
Treatment Options
- Conservative treatment- is a usual way to treat heel pain
- Orthotics-one of the most effective treatment option
- Rest-Getting extra rest and limiting athletic activities
- Icing-you may apply ice to the area for 20 minutes up to four times daily
- Night splints-that maintain the foot at an angle of 90 degrees to prevent contraction of the planter fascia while the patient sleeps
- Exercise-stretching the Achilles tendon
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Protective footwear
- Casting-short-leg walking cast as a final conservative step
